day 8: on the market
Aeris is a sight to behold. A magnificent multiple story arena of mercantile, magisterial, and mercenary musings that would make the great capital jealous. The lower floor, provides your day to day needs, food, supplies, and such. The second floor devoted to strictly weaponry, both offensive and defensive. This is also where the mercenary guilds set up shop looking to hop on with the highest paying guild or caravan that comes their way. The next level up is the scholarly branch on the bazaar. Filled with tomes for the taking, grand halls where debates on geo politics and power struggles take place. This is where I first laid eyes upon the Scales. The Scales were a series of large contraptions that showed the amount of influence and power that each major guild or organization had at any given moment. All was above board in Aeris, all shown for those to see, what better way to promote your company than for every one to see its magnificence, in real time. At the top of course, as they had always been, The Sparrows, then the Seal of Fates a few ticks down, then the Scorp Corps, the Flying Foxes and so on. Each represented with their guilds sigil, in their respective colors.
The next floor was dedicated to the trading of Affa. Sealed at a temp that was quite uncomfortable to be honest. I didn’t spend too much time here, though I did have a look at he price Cerulea was going for, just in case. The next level, the Nobles Quarters, private rooms wealthy patrons could rent out for large fees and over look the hustle and bustle of the market place, you know without having to get their shoes dirty of course. The very top was labeled ACCESS DENIED. I wonder what it is that rides above the great nobles houses of the major guilds.
I spent most of the day wandering around. Consuming the exotic eats of the market, smelling the incense brought in from the deep desert of Waatu, drinking cold drinks filled with ice from the Ikari Glacier, you know, for research of course. The Seal’s sigil that I wore on my breast was welcomed by all, and effectively I dined for free that day. Most, not all want to stay in favor with the Seal of Fates, and many see it as a great descendant of the Last Empire, we do share the same house so it makes sense, though we do not follow the same path as the last lords. It was a magnificent day all in all, though tonight I sleep early, I have a meeting with woman about a train to a ship to a waalker tomorrow, early…..
